Fireworks and the Comforts of Home! Oh, and Freedom!

I've always been fascinated by the finale of a fireworks show. I mean, really. Are they all the ones that they haven't set off yet but they've run out of time so they just light them all and off they go? Or is it really planned to have them go off for the big blow out? And why anyway? Why does the last part of the show have to be the BIG FINALE!! OOOOH!! Ahhhh!!

Fireworks. Just what our forefathers always wanted us to do to celebrate our freedom! Woo-hoo!!

This year, the allure of the fireworks show was that we didn't have to use any effort to see them ... unless you count opening and closing the back door, and walking out onto the deck. Oh, and I can't forget making sure I had a fresh drink. THAT, as we all know, is always important - especially when it comes to watching fireworks.

Centreville has - for the second year in a row - decided that the best place to set off fireworks for the town's celebration is in the field just beyond our house. We, of course, couldn't be more pleased with this decision. We don't have to go anywhere to enjoy, as it turns out, some pretty darn good fireworks. And the boys stay up to enjoy them (and I use the term "enjoy" loosely when referring to Andrew. He was more concerned that some of the fireworks would land on our roof, so he spent the first part of the show worrying about that. He finally relaxed just before the BIG FINALE). And then, when the show is over - and we've "oooh!"'d and "ahhh!!"'d over all the cool pyrotechnics shot into the air creating pretty colors and loud noises, we can walk into our house, set down the now-empty glass, and walk the boys upstairs for bed.

Lately our move to Centreville 4 years ago has been a topic of discussion between my husband and me. Did we make the right decision moving so far away from work? On days like the Fourth of July, it was the smartest move we've made.

Happy July 4th from the back deck of Providence Court!
